Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E5TBXA - Barry Adamson performing live on stage at Future Yard in Birkenhead, Merseyside, on 15 March 2025, photographed under warm red stage lighting during his UK tour. Wearing a light-coloured hat, dark suit and glasses, Adamson is shown with electric guitar in a poised mid-performance moment at one of the Wirral's best-known independent grassroots music venues. The image is useful as an editorial photograph of contemporary live music, alternative culture, post-punk history and the enduring appeal of influential British musicians whose careers stretch across several eras of popular music. Adamson is well known both for his solo work and for his earlier role in Magazine, giving the picture wider relevance for stories about post-punk, art rock, new wave, Manchester-connected music legacies and musicians who successfully moved from seminal bands into distinctive solo careers.
The photograph also suits features on Future Yard itself, a well-known Birkenhead venue at 75 Argyle Street that has become an important part of the local live music scene, supporting touring artists and grassroots culture on Merseyside. Strong red lighting, microphone stands, amplifier backline and the intimate club setting give the image a classic small-venue concert atmosphere, making it suitable for use in articles about UK touring circuits, independent venues, performance photography, music journalism and northern cultural life. It can also work in coverage of Barry Adamson's 2025 live dates, his continuing recording and performing career, and the connection between historic post-punk figures and modern audiences. Barry Adamson's official tour page lists Future Yard, Birkenhead on 15 March 2025, while the venue confirms its address as 75 Argyle Street, CH41 6AB

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E8PTR2 - Editorial live music photograph of Bella Podpadec of Dream Wife performing with bass guitar at Future Yard, Birkenhead, on 2 November 2024 during the band's Social Lubrication tour. Podpadec is shown kneeling on the stage in a dramatic performance pose, holding the bass upright under vivid pink and magenta concert lighting, with drum kit, microphone, LED panels, stage cables and black backdrop visible around the compact live venue setting. The image captures the physical energy and theatricality of a small venue rock show, where the closeness of the stage, lighting wash and visible equipment give the scene an immediate documentary feel.
Dream Wife are a London-based English-Icelandic rock band associated with punk, pop punk, indie rock, feminist punk energy and sharp live performance. Current band references list Rakel Mjöll on vocals, Alice Go on guitar and vocals, Bella Podpadec on bass and vocals, with Alex Paveley on drums, while Lucky Number Music identifies Podpadec as bassist and notes their they/them pronouns. The Future Yard date is listed as a 2 November 2024 Dream Wife show, with the set beginning with Social Lubrication, connecting this image strongly to the Social Lubrication album tour period.
The photograph is suitable for editorial coverage of Dream Wife, Bella Podpadec, UK tour dates, Merseyside live music, Birkenhead venues, independent music spaces, feminist punk, queer music, contemporary alternative rock, concert reviews, music journalism and gig culture. It also works well for broader themes around women and non-binary musicians in rock, grassroots venues, Liverpool City Region culture, touring bands, stagecraft, bass performance and the continuing audience for energetic, politically aware guitar music. Future Yard's role as a multi-use live music space and artist hub in Birkenhead adds further regional and cultural relevance for local music features

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K1RDF4 - Built in 1852 by William Kelsall a saddler of Old Glossop the first mention of a beerhouse is an advert in a Glossop Record local paper in June 1863 which stated that Decima Hall was selling up at the Spinners Arms, Milltown and leaving the country.
John Booth took up the offer and moved down from the Drover's Arms in 1864. In the 1871 Census he was also described as a grocer with the pub now called the Prince of Wales, having possibly changed in 1864 when John Booth moved in following the marriage of the Prince of Wales. In a Morris Commercial Directory for 1878 John was also a wholesale agent for George Robert Clayton a brewer of Salford. In 1880 he unsuccessfully applied for an alehouse licence but remained licensee until 1892. He had bought the pub from William Kelsall in 1877 and sold it to Openshaw Brewery in 1903 who took out a new 999year lease in 1921.
It remained a beerhouse until 1960 when a Full Licence was obtained, as with other Openshaw pubs it eventually became a Bass house. It was sold by Bass in 1982 to the Prince of Wales Partnership one of whose members Arthur Banks took out the licence followed a month later by David Hughes. It was bought by Marston Thompson & Evershed in 1984 who in 1986 gave it a complete refurbishment with the provision of dining room and function room upstairs for 40 people.

Fishmongers can be wholesalers or retailers and are trained at selecting and purchasing, handling, gutting, boning, filleting, displaying, merchandising and selling their product. In some countries modern supermarkets are replacing fishmongers who operate in shops or fish markets.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2M108AF - The Viaduct Tavern is a Grade II listed public house at 126 Newgate Street, Holborn, London. It was built in 1865 and the interior was remodeled in 18981900 by Arthur Dixon. It is on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.
The tavern is also known for reportedly being haunted, and has been the subject of several investigation shows, including BuzzFeed Unsolved
The pub has a large curved frontage, but the interior is surprisingly small. Many of the original features have survived. On one wall, three paintings of wistful maidens represent agriculture, banking and the arts. The arts' was attacked (some say shot, others bayoneted) by a drunken First World War soldier, and she still bears the scar.
There are gilded and silvered mirrors and decorated glass. At the back of the bar is a manager's stall, a sort of office booth, made from beautifully carved hardwood and intricately engraved glass panels. The ornate ceiling is made from beaten copper and is supported by cast iron pillars.
The Viaduct Tavern and the Old Bailey opposite, were NOT built on the site of Newgate Prison, which continued until 1868. The cellars of the Viaduct are therefore NOT the former cells of the prison and despite the tours of them that can be arranged by appointment (they're authentically skanky) they're not cells. Still evocative and stinkily Victorian, though.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2MCGB61 - Philip Parris Lynott (20 August 1949 4 January 1986) was an Irish singer, bassist, and songwriter. His most commercially successful group was Thin Lizzy, of which he was a founding member, the principal songwriter, lead vocalist and bassist. He was known for his distinctive plectrum-based style on the bass, and for his imaginative lyrical contributions including working class tales and numerous characters drawn from personal influences and Celtic culture.
Lynott was born in the West Midlands of England, but grew up in Dublin with his grandparents. He remained close to his mother, Philomena, throughout his life. He fronted several bands as a lead vocalist, including Skid Row alongside Gary Moore, before learning the bass guitar and forming Thin Lizzy in 1969. After initial success with Whiskey in the Jar, the band had several hits in the mid-1970s such as The Boys Are Back in Town, Jailbreak and Waiting for an Alibi, and became a popular live attraction combining Lynott's vocal and songwriting skills with dual lead guitars. Towards the end of the 1970s, Lynott embarked upon a solo career, published two books of poetry, and after Thin Lizzy disbanded, he assembled and fronted the band Grand Slam.
In 2005, a life-size bronze statue of Lynott by Dublin sculptor Paul Daly was unveiled on Harry Street, off Grafton Street in Dublin. The ceremony was attended by Lynott's mother Philomena, and former band members Moore, Bell, Robertson, Downey, Gorham and Darren Wharton, who performed live
In the 1980s, Lynott increasingly suffered drug-related problems, particularly an addiction to heroin. In 1985, he had a final chart success with Moore, Out in the Fields, followed by the minor hit Nineteen, before his death in 1986. He remains a popular figure in the rock world

Manchester evg News Review - https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/whats-on/music-nightlife-news/gig-review-fall--manchester-7129956
I've seen Mark E Smith at a range of venues, from sweaty club gigs to confusing 100,000 Gorillaz fans at Glastonbury's main stage, but to see Manchester's most dissident music icon at the city's cathedral felt like it would be a surreal experience.
When the man himself strode past paying customers into the main nave of the grand old building, with the assurance of a man who very much owned the place, it was a double-take moment which seemed fitting of the whole event.
The Fall have been an unusually settled outfit in recent years, now on their fourth consecutive studio album with the same line-up.
For a band which has clocked up almost 70 members one of whom was reportedly fired by its iconic frontman and dictator-in-chief for ordering a salad it's been a period of relative calm which could have brought accusations of sterility.
The rousing opener Your Future, Our Clutter' quickly dispels any fears of the serene venue taking away any of The Fall's traditional sting, if anything the acoustics of the cathedral add another layer to Smith's barking, hectoring vocals.
The follow-up number I'm not from Bury' seems appropriate as the Prestwich rock deity holds his hometown crowd in the palm of his hand, especially the ones craning their necks around the cathedral's dramatic pillars as he prowls around the stage like an overlord searching for something that needs correcting.
In nearing 40 years as The Fall's supreme leader Smith has exhibited a fondness for live-mixing' during sets a tweak of an amp here etc

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy DG386Y - An ice cream van (British) or ice cream truck (American) is a commercial vehicle which serves as a traveling retail outlet for ice cream, usually during the summer. Ice cream vans are often seen parked at public events, or near parks, beaches, or other areas where people congregate. Ice cream vans often travel near where children play outside schools, in residential areas, or in other locations. They usually stop briefly before moving on to the next street.
Ice cream vans are often brightly decorated and carry images of ice cream, or some other adornment, such as cartoon characters. They may have painted-on notices, which can serve a commercial purpose (Stop me and buy one!) or a more serious one (Don't Skid on a Kid!) - serving as a warning to passing motorists that children may run out into the road at the sight of the van, or appear without warning from behind it. Along the sides, a large sliding window acts as a serving hatch, and this is often covered with small pictures of the available products, with their associated prices.
A distinctive feature of ice cream vans is their melodic chimes, and often these take the form of a famous and recognizable tune, usually The Mister Softee Jingle, Turkey in the Straw, Do Your Ears Hang Low?, Pop Goes The Weasel The Entertainer, Music Box Dancer, Home on the Range, It's a Small World, Super Mario Bros. Theme or Camptown Races
or, in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Greensleeves, Whistle While You Work in Crewe and Nantwich, You Are My Sunshine in Vale Royal, Teddy Bears' Picnic in Sheffield, and Match of the Day in other places.
In some places in the US, ice cream trucks play the song Ice Cream by Andre Nickatina (essentially just Turkey in the Straw with bass).

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 6357454651 - 'A cold evening in Oldham, with the town centre being dug up, a classic back catalog from the early JD &
Warsaw days. What more could you ask for? A special warm up for a unique tour.
Well I saw Joy Division a couple of times, the same number of times I have been to see the memoral to Ian Curtis in Macclesfield. You can be forgiven for expecting a lot.
I have got to say, Hooky and The Light made a good job of it. The Castle reminded me of the Russell Club in Hulme, it just needed lower ceilings. Down to about 7'.
Rowetta was here too. The EP containing unreleased Joy Division track \u2018Pictures In My Mind\u2019, \u2018Atmosphere\u2019 plus Rowetta\u2019s versions of \u2018New Dawn Fades\u2019 and \u2018Insight\u2019 are worth a download, see www.fac51thehacienda.com/node/2088
Everything sounded raw, stripped down. Particularly the Closer album tracks, the young folks will only know them with the Hannett gloss of polished production.
Hooky's voice is slightly rough and Mancunian too. He needed some pages of his lyric book. Theres no robotic dancing either, and not so much bass playing. He leaves much to Jack, although rips into it as an axe-man when he gets in the mood. Breaks a string too on the Eccleshall Viking 1 (in Red with Cream Binding), so then it becomes more of a prop.
Rowetta's 'Atmosphere' was a highlight for me. Maybe all along that track needed female vocals.
Overall Hooky did good. He wrote this stuff, its in his soul. Thats why he wants to tour and share it, he is certainly not doing for the cash!

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 5743031658 - 'Auden plays in a band down in Portobello, east of Edinburgh which is a bit of a trendy up-coming neighbourhood (at least thats what the ESPC estate agents are saying). His band composes and plays material similar to Pendulum.
His musical style for the foot of the Royal Mile is more blues, Led Zeppelin, Eagles and classic rock however. He looks the part with his battered old bass.
The Tass lies on the High Street section of Edinburgh's Royal Mile, opposite the equally well known World's End. If you look at the cobbles in the High Street here you can see the outline in brass of the Netherbow Port, once the eastern gateway of the City of Edinburgh.
The Tass is named after one of Robert Burns' songs, The Silver Tassie (or 'goblet') and the Tass seeks to remember Scotland's greatest bard with a range of memorabilia relating to him. Don't worry though, this isn't overdone and it would be quite possible to enjoy the ambiance without being overwhelmed by the theme.
Much more obvious is the Tass's role as a focus for traditional and folk music, with live performances taking place most evenings. A choice of real ales and malt whiskies is on offer, and when I popped in the food looks fairly good too.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4409614624 - 'The wonderful Nikki on bass (she is a cutie) with Lecarla, here on their mini-tour with AOA (Arms Of Atlas) 26/02/2010. Lecarla are simply the turbo-charged 21st century version of Girlschool from Hemel Hempstead. The band are Lead Singer Lizzy Dent, Lead Guitarist Hannah the Whitmarsh, Guitarist Joe Alfano, Bassist Nikki Brightman and Drummer Steve North.
They have done support slots with my recent faves 'Towers Of London' so this gig was unmissible for me. Well worth the excursion out. I was shouting for more (not like reserved little me :-)
The setlist at the Rec' at Winnington, Northwich, Cheshire was :
Where do we go?
Dilligaf
Silent drive home
This is the interval
Cities in the sky
Uncovered
Obstiocles and Runaways.
The night before they were at The Sumo in Leicester and Saturday back down the M1 to the Bridgehouse in the London smoke.
Check em out on myspace www.myspace.com/lecarla and let them sell you some merch.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4466430357 - 'I saw the brilliant Manchester based band Obsessive Compulsive last night at Winnington Rec' Park Road Northwich. I have some shots to post but I was looking how they have changed from about four years ago. Kelli has really come on and really now dominates the stage. Here I love that Macc lads T-Shirt she has on (must dig out some of their filth later...).
Here is a shot from a Banned! gig. There was a crowd of about 200 there and it was a cracking night. A full list of nights where I covered the gigs can be found at www.flickr.com/photos/hotpixuk/3711866695/
