Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EX1RE5 - Pint of Stewart Brewing Unbelievab-ale Worldie IPA served on cask at the Athletic Arms, the historic Edinburgh pub widely known as Diggers. The pump clip uses a Scotland football theme, showing players in dark blue and red kits beneath the Stewart Brewing branding, with the beer identified as a 4.2% ABV Worldie IPA. The image links Scottish real ale culture with the national team's return to the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
Scotland qualified for the tournament after a 28-year absence from the finals and competed in Group C against Haiti, Morocco and Brazil. The team beat Haiti 1-0 before defeats to Morocco and Brazil, finishing third in the group and missing the knockout stage. The tournament nevertheless generated strong interest across Scotland, with pubs, breweries and hospitality venues using football-themed promotions, screenings and limited or seasonal beers to attract supporters.
Stewart Brewing, an independent Edinburgh brewery, produced Unbelievab-ale Worldie IPA as a football-themed beer for the 2026 competition. The pump clip describes it as a 4.2% IPA, while contemporary pub promotion identified citrus, floral and zesty tasting notes. Its name combines football language with a beer pun, presenting the drink as a celebratory Scottish product tied to the World Cup occasion.
The Athletic Arms stands at 1“3 Angle Park Terrace and has served Edinburgh drinkers since 1897. Its nickname, Diggers, derives from its location between two graveyards and its historic association with gravediggers. The pub is known for cask ale, whisky and match-day trade due to its proximity to Tynecastle Park and Murrayfield Stadium.
The photograph documents a seasonal sporting beer, pub marketing, independent Scottish brewing, cask-conditioned ale and football supporter culture during Scotland's 2026 World Cup appearance

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EE4M60 - St Colman's Cathedral rises above the brightly painted Deck of Cards houses in Cobh, County Cork, creating one of Ireland's most recognisable urban and coastal views. The photograph looks across a steep hillside garden towards the colourful terraced homes of West View, with the cathedral's soaring Gothic Revival spire dominating the skyline and Cork Harbour stretching away behind. Red, turquoise, yellow, blue, cream and dark-painted facades bring strong colour to the foreground, while heavy grey summer clouds contrast with patches of brighter sky over the water.
Dedicated to Saint Colman of Cloyne, the Roman Catholic cathedral occupies a commanding position above Cobh and the harbour. Its foundation stone was laid in 1868 and the ambitious building took around half a century to complete. The elaborate French Gothic-inspired design, tall pointed windows, pinnacles, rose window and exceptionally slender spire make the church a major architectural landmark. The tower also contains a celebrated carillon, reinforcing the cathedral's religious, musical and cultural importance to the town.
The adjoining row of colourful houses is widely nicknamed the Deck of Cards because the homes appear to cascade down the steep slope in a closely packed sequence. Together, the cathedral and houses have become a defining tourism image for Cobh, a historic port associated with emigration, Atlantic travel, cruise ships and the final stopping point of RMS Titanic in 1912.
This vertical landscape photograph is suitable for editorial themes involving Irish architecture, colourful streets, religious heritage, Cork tourism, harbour towns, coastal scenery, cultural travel and picturesque European destinations. Green planting and red flowers in the foreground add natural depth, while the dramatic weather and elevated viewpoint emphasise Cobh's steep topography and the cathedral's prominent setting above the waterfront

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E8PTXK - Four costumed stilt walkers wave large black-and-white chequered flags while entertaining spectators at the British Formula One Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit in July. The performers wear coordinated red, black and checked racing-themed outfits, with two elevated entertainers standing on each side of a visitor posing beneath the flags. Grandstands, event structures, tyre displays, refreshment outlets and racegoers fill the background under a bright blue summer sky, creating a colourful festival atmosphere at one of Britain's largest sporting events.
The scene shows how the British Grand Prix has developed into more than a motor race. Alongside practice, qualifying and the main Formula One contest, the Silverstone weekend offers roaming performers, live music, fan zones, merchandise, food, hospitality and other activities designed to entertain visitors. The chequered flag is one of motor racing's most recognisable symbols, traditionally displayed to mark the end of a race, and its use by the stilt walkers provides an immediate visual connection with Formula One and motorsport culture.
Silverstone is widely known as the home of the British Grand Prix and hosted the opening round of the inaugural Formula One World Championship in 1950. The former wartime airfield became a permanent racing venue and remains central to British motor racing heritage. Large crowds travel from across Britain and overseas for the July event, with many spectators camping nearby and attending for several days.
This sunny documentary photograph is suitable for editorial themes involving Formula One supporters, British motorsport, event entertainment, summer festivals, crowd engagement, visitor experience, tourism, sporting culture and family-friendly activities. The dry grass and strong sunlight suggest warm midsummer conditions, while the flags, costumes and elevated performers capture the spectacle and celebratory energy surrounding a major international race weekend

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EM2JMF - Summer drinkers, tourists and local customers gathered outside The Dame Tavern on Dame Court in Dublin 2, a short pedestrian lane close to Dame Street, Temple Bar, Dublin Castle, City Hall and the south city centre nightlife area. The photograph captures the bright red pub frontage, striped outdoor umbrellas, standing groups, passing pedestrians and warm sunlight falling across the narrow street, giving a lively impression of Dublin's outdoor hospitality culture during a busy fine-weather day. The Dame Tavern is a compact city-centre bar at 18 Dame Court, known as a snug and popular pub serving Guinness, drinks and music in a location that attracts office workers, shoppers, theatre-goers, weekend visitors and European city-break tourists. The image is useful for editorial coverage of Irish pubs, Dublin tourism, short breaks, hospitality, licensed premises, socialising, summer leisure, pub culture, nightlife, consumer spending, city-centre footfall and the visitor economy. The visible building signage, crowd behaviour and central location make it suitable for features about relaxed outdoor drinking, pedestrian-friendly streets, pub-led regeneration, independent bars, tourism pressure, licensing, hospitality staffing, weekend travel and the continuing appeal of traditional Irish pubs as informal public meeting places. It also works for stories about EU city breaks, low-cost flights, Dublin hotel stays, pub crawls, food and drink tourism, social life after work, young adult leisure and the balance between residents, visitors and late-night venues in compact historic streets. The scene appears to be photographed in strong summer daylight, with blue sky brightness reflected on facades and people wearing light warm-weather clothing. No individual is the main subject, so the emphasis remains on place, atmosphere, tourism, urban leisure and the everyday street-level economy around one of Dublin's best-known central pub clusters

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EENHYT - Spectators in a grandstand at Silverstone Circuit during Formula 1 British Grand Prix practice day, watching track action from blue seats beside the safety fencing, run-off area and open sky. The image shows the fan experience at one of the most famous motor racing venues in Britain, with spectators in casual clothing, people using phones, drinks in hand, marshals and trackside staff visible in the distance, and the wide Northamptonshire circuit landscape beyond the barrier. Silverstone is officially described as the home of the British Grand Prix and its grandstand ticketing promotes reserved seating across the Friday to Sunday race weekend, making this a useful photograph for editorial coverage of F1 spectators, practice sessions, motorsport tourism, race weekend build-up, grandstand views, sporting crowds and British summer events. The scene appears to be photographed in daylight under mixed cloud, with bright spells and a cool, changeable British weather feel typical of outdoor race meetings. The photograph works well for stories about Formula 1 fans, British Grand Prix attendance, Friday practice, motorsport culture, Silverstone facilities, circuit safety, spectator seating, high-speed sport, event management, travel to major venues and the economics of flagship UK sporting weekends. It also has value for travel, leisure and lifestyle uses showing a relaxed crowd waiting for or watching track activity before the higher-pressure qualifying and race sessions. The visible fencing, gravel run-off and trackside service area give strong context as a live racing circuit rather than a generic outdoor stadium. The composition captures the practical reality of a practice day, with fans spread through the stand, clouds gathering overhead and the atmosphere of anticipation before the main British Grand Prix race.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2RADRR3 - A stone angel statue sits within an overgrown graveyard, photographed in black and white to emphasise texture, shadow and atmosphere. The figure's downcast expression and folded posture convey themes of mourning and reflection, while the outstretched wings frame the sculpture against a background of wild vegetation and aged headstones.
Encroaching plants and wild flowers partially obscure the monument, creating a sense of nature slowly reclaiming the cemetery landscape. The weathered surface of the stone adds to the image's timeless quality, suggesting the passage of years and the enduring presence of memory within burial grounds.
The monochrome treatment enhances the image's slightly eerie, ghostly mood without overt dramatization, making it suitable for illustrating themes of death, remembrance, spirituality, gothic aesthetics, and the quiet beauty of historic graveyards. It works equally well as documentary imagery or as atmospheric visual material for creative and editorial use.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JP0K7E - Peter Hook helped unveil a new mural of Joy Division bandmate Ian Curtis in Macclesfield town centre this afternoon (March 26).
The bassist and co-founder of New Order cut the ribbon alongside Akse, the Manchester-based street artist who painted the mural, telling those in attendance: I am actually very honoured to be here, and to do this, because to me it's about time Ian came home.
The mural, funded by Cheshire East Council, is based on an original photograph taken by Kevin Cummins at The Factory/Russell Club in Hulme, Manchester on 13 July 1979. It adorns a building on Mill Street opposite Macclesfield bus station.
Ahead of the unveiling, Hook said earlier in the week: I'm watching all the people going down the street and every single one of them is drawn to it.
Some young kids walking down had no idea who he was but now they do. Hopefully they'll listen to the music and get the gist of what we were trying to do as kids.
He said it was an honour to paint the portrait of Curtis and hoped local people were excited about it.
Aske said,Although I've been working on murals most of my life, it's still always an incredible feeling to get to the end of the journey “ well the end of my journey at least, Akse said. Now it's time for the people of Macclesfield to enjoy the mural, as I know how much Ian meant to so many of them.
Councillor Nick Mannion, chair of the authority's economy and growth committee, said: Before today, I spoke about how perhaps this beautiful mural has been somewhat overdue but now that I'm here seeing it for myself for the first time, I can say without any doubt that it has truly been worth the wait.
I am a huge fan of Joy Division “ the cultural significance of the band and Ian stretches well beyond my home town of Macclesfield. This is such a proud moment, I'm feeling very emotional about it right now.
Curtis, who was brought up in the town and is buried in Macclesfield Cemetery, was the lead singer of Joy Division

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2JMWGPY - The peak expiratory flow (PEF), also called peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR), is a person's maximum speed of expiration, as measured with a peak flow meter, a small, hand-held device used to monitor a person's ability to breathe out air. It measures the airflow through the bronchi and thus the degree of obstruction in the airways. Peak expiratory flow is typically measured in units of liters per minute (L/min).
Peak flow readings are higher when patients are well, and lower when the airways are constricted. From changes in recorded values, patients and doctors may determine lung functionality, the severity of asthma symptoms, and treatment.
Measurement of PEFR requires training to correctly use a meter and the normal expected value depends on the patient's sex, age, and height. It is classically reduced in obstructive lung disorders such as asthma.
Due to the wide range of 'normal' values and the high degree of variability, peak flow is not the recommended test to identify asthma. However, it can be useful in some circumstances.
A small portion of people with asthma may benefit from regular peak flow monitoring. When monitoring is recommended, it is usually done in addition to reviewing asthma symptoms and frequency of reliever medication use.
When peak flow is being monitored regularly, the results may be recorded on a peak flow chart.
It is important to use the same peak flow meter every time.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K14906 - The St. Pancras Renaissance London Hotel forms the frontispiece of St Pancras railway station in St Pancras, London. The station is one of the main rail termini in London and the final stop for international trains departing to Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and other destinations in mainland Europe. It opened in 2011, and occupies much of the former Midland Grand Hotel designed by George Gilbert Scott which opened in 1873 and closed in 1935. The hotel is managed by Marriot International.
Planning permission was granted in 2004 for the building to be redeveloped into a new hotel.
The main public rooms of the old Midland Grand were restored, along with some of the bedrooms. The former driveway for taxis entering St. Pancras station, passing under the main tower of the building, was converted into the hotel's lobby. In order to cater for the more modern expectations of guests, a new bedroom wing was constructed on the western side of the Barlow train shed
As redeveloped the hotel contains 244 bedrooms, two restaurants, two bars, a health and leisure centre, a ballroom, and 20 meeting and function rooms. The architects for the redevelopment were Aedas RHWL. At the same time, the upper floors of the original building were redeveloped as 68 apartments by the Manhattan Loft Corporation.
The St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel opened on 14 March 2011 to guests
however, the formal Grand Opening was on 5 May “ exactly 138 years after its original opening in 1873

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2A4PJMF - Ewood Park is a football stadium in the English town of Blackburn, Lancashire, and is the home of Blackburn Rovers Football Club ” one of the founder members of the Football League and Premier League. Rovers have played there since they moved from Leamington Road in the summer of 1890. The stadium opened in 1882 and is an all seater multi-sports facility with a capacity of 31,367. It comprises four sections: The Bryan Douglas Darwen End, Riverside Stand (named as such because it stands practically on the banks of the River Darwen), Ronnie Clayton Blackburn End, and Jack Walker Stand, which is named after Blackburn industrialist and club supporter, Jack Walker. The football pitch within the stadium measures 115 by 76 yards (105 m × 69 m).
Football had been played on the site since at least 1881
Rovers played four matches there when it was known as Ewood Bridge and was most likely little more than a field. Their first match was against Sheffield Wednesday on 9 April 1881.
Ewood Park was officially opened in April 1882 and during the 1880s staged football, athletics and some form of greyhound racing (not oval). Rovers moved back in in 1890, signing a ten-year lease at an initial annual rent of £60. Their first match at the ground was against Accrington in September. In 1893, Blackburn Rovers bought the freehold of the ground for £2500, but came close to disaster soon after when part of a stand collapsed under the weight of a 20,000 strong crowd for the visit of Everton

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2MG41A4 - The attractive Cheshire village of Grappenhall, near Warrington contains some interesting buildings and retains its characterful cobbled roads and village stocks. The name derives from the Old English words 'grop', 'grep', or 'grepe' (meaning ditch/drain), and halh (meaning flat land by a river). The village was first mentioned in the Domesday book of 1086, referred to as 'Gropenhale' the land was described as having a wood with deer and was valued as being worth five shillings.
The village stands on the Bridgewater Canal, built for Francis Egerton, 3rd Duke of Bridgewater by James Brindley and completed in 1772, it was once a busy commercial enterprise transporting coal from the mines in Worsley near Manchester to industries in Widnes, Runcorn and Northwich where the fuel was used in the production of chemicals. Nowadays the quiet towpath of the canal makes for a pleasant stroll.
A Norman church stood on the site of the Church of St. Wilfred although it was largely rebuilt in the sixteenth century. The earliest recorded rector of the church was in 1189. A small chapel was added to the church by the local Boydell family in 1334 and contains a commemorative window in their honour. Fragments of medieval glass have been preserved from the chapel which form the most extensive medieval stained glass in Cheshire. During nineteenth century building work a Saxon font of the local red sandstone was discovered at a depth of about three feet below floor level. The chancel contains an effigy of Sir William Boydell, who died in 1275. The reredos is carved in oak and is based on the painting of The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci.
The carving of a cat which adorns the west face of the church tower is said to have been the inspiration for the grinning Cheshire cat in Lewis Carrol's famous children's story 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. Carrol was born in the nearby village of Daresbury. By the gate to the churchyard stand the two stone uprights of the village stocks

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K3XN37 - Greyfriars Kirkyard is the graveyard surrounding Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh, Scotland. It is located at the southern edge of the Old Town, adjacent to George Heriot's School. Burials have been taking place since the late 16th century, and a number of notable Edinburgh residents are interred at Greyfriars. The Kirkyard is operated by City of Edinburgh Council in liaison with a charitable trust, which is linked to but separate from the church. The Kirkyard and its monuments are protected as a category A listed building.
History
Greyfriars takes its name from the Franciscan friary on the site (the friars of which wear grey habits), which was dissolved in 1560. The churchyard was founded in August 1562 after Royal sanction was granted to replace the churchyard at St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh. The latter burial ground was not used after around 1600.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy F0XDWE - The Brandenburg Gate (German: Brandenburger Tor) is an 18th-century neoclassical triumphal arch in Berlin, and one of the best-known landmarks of Germany. It is built on the site of a former city gate that marked the start of the road from Berlin to the town of Brandenburg an der Havel.
It is located in the western part of the city centre of Berlin, at the junction of Unter den Linden and Ebertstraße, immediately west of the Pariser Platz. One block to the north stands the Reichstag building. The gate is the monumental entry to Unter den Linden, the renowned boulevard of linden trees, which formerly led directly to the city palace of the Prussian monarchs.
It was commissioned by King Frederick William II of Prussia as a sign of peace and built by Carl Gotthard Langhans from 1788 to 1791. Having suffered considerable damage in World War II, the Brandenburg Gate was fully restored from 2000 to 2002 by the Stiftung Denkmalschutz Berlin (Berlin Monument Conservation Foundation).
During the post-war Partition of Germany, the gate was isolated and inaccessible immediately next to the Berlin Wall, and the area around the gate was featured most prominently in the media coverage of the tearing down of the wall in 1989.
Throughout its existence, the Brandenburg Gate was often a site for major historical events and is today considered a symbol of the tumultuous history of Europe and Germany, but also of European unity and peace.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2KEW736 - Ian Kevin Curtis (15 July 1956 “ 18 May 1980) was an English musician. He was the lead singer and lyricist of the post-punk band Joy Division and recorded two albums with the group: Unknown Pleasures (1979) and Closer (1980). Curtis was known for his bass-baritone voice, dance style and songwriting typically filled with imagery of desolation, emptiness, and alienation.
Curtis had epilepsy and depression and died by suicide on the eve of Joy Division's first North American tour and shortly before the release of Closer. Shortly after his death, the three surviving members of the band reconstituted themselves as New Order.
Curtis obtained a job at a record shop in Manchester City Centre, before obtaining more stable employment within the civil service. His employment as a civil servant saw Curtis initially deployed to Cheadle Hulme, where he worked for several months with the Ministry of Defence, before he was offered alternative employment within the Manpower Services Commission in a building at Piccadilly Gardens. He later worked as a civil servant in Woodford, Greater Manchester although, at his request, approximately one year later Curtis was posted to Macclesfield's Employment Exchange, where he worked as an Assistant Disablement Resettlement Officer.
On 23 August 1975, Curtis married Deborah Woodruff, to whom he was introduced by a friend, Tony Nuttall. Ian and Deborah initially became friends and then began dating in December 1972, when both were 16 years old. Their wedding service was conducted at St Thomas' Church in Henbury, Cheshire. Curtis was 19 and Woodruff 18. They had one child, a daughter named Natalie, born on 16 April 1979. Initially, the couple lived with Ian's grandparents, although shortly after their marriage the couple moved to a working-class neighbourhood in Chadderton, where they paid a mortgage while working in jobs neither enjoyed. Before long, the couple became disillusioned with life in Oldham and remortgaged their house

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy KDTFYG - Awards Evening, Black Tie gives a direct editorial record of a recognisable subject, with location, signage, architecture or everyday behaviour carrying much of the meaning. A black-tie awards evening suggests formal recognition, corporate hospitality, charity fundraising, professional networking and the ceremonial side of business and civic life. The subject can illustrate event management, gala dinners, sponsorship, achievement culture, evening wear, conference hotels, staff awards and the rituals organisations use to celebrate themselves. The location wording gives the subject enough geographic context for local and regional editorial use while avoiding a generic studio feel. For buyers, the strength lies in the combination of a named subject, a lived-in setting and enough visual specificity to carry stories about how places are used, remembered, funded, visited or contested.
