Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R64KCJ - This image shows graffiti featuring the phrase You'll Never Walk Alone, widely recognised as the anthem and slogan of Liverpool FC, painted on a brick wall in Merseyside. The bold lettering and Liverpool-red colour palette directly reference the club's visual identity and long-standing supporter culture.
You'll Never Walk Alone has become a powerful symbol of solidarity, loyalty, and collective identity among Liverpool supporters, extending far beyond the football stadium into everyday urban spaces. Graffiti such as this is a common expression of fandom across Merseyside, reinforcing the deep connection between club, city, and community.
The additional handwritten messages and memorial wording suggest a personal tribute layered onto the football slogan, illustrating how public street art is often used both for sporting allegiance and informal remembrance. This blending of football culture and local memory reflects the social role football plays within communities.
Photographed in daylight, the image documents contemporary British football culture as it appears in the urban environment rather than inside a stadium. It is well suited for editorial use covering football fandom, street art, supporter identity, Merseyside culture, and the wider social meaning of sport in everyday life.

He is the street artist from Liverpool few people know but whose work everyone on Merseyside has seen.
And if you haven't noticed it before you won't be able to stop seeing his art after you have read this.
From Queens Drive to Aigburth Road, Crosby to Kirkby, the instantly-recognisable work of Sine Missione is peppered across the region.
It means that at least some of the thousands of dull, often vandalised, green electrical boxes that dot most streets across Liverpool now shine with fresh paint and the faces and words of the likes of Che Guevara, Bob Marley, John Lennon and Bill Shankly.
It all started with an image of Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer statue being introduced to Larkhill Lane in Clubmoor about five years ago.
Now, after catching up with the artist some may dub the Scouse Banksy, the ECHO can shed light on the work making passers-by smile and, crucially for the man behind it, think about the world they live in.
And the L13 location of his first piece and the focus on electrical boxes begin to make sense when you realise Sine Missione is an electrician from nearby Anfield - details he was happy to be revealed, so long as his name and picture were not.
He told the ECHO: I'd been looking at these green boxes for years. They are a blight on the city - they are like vandalism and I've taken it upon myself to look after them.
They are like visual vandalism, it's really hard to be happy if all you see is black, grey and brown. There's no colour anywhere and we need colour in our lives.
So he bought some paint, gave an electrical box a fresh coat of paint then returned when it was dry with a sticker of Christ the Redeemer he had created.
That was the birth of Sine Missione - the first of hundreds of pieces of art that have seen him hard at work in the dead of night, posing as a workman to avoid the questions of officials

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4991347212 - 'Theme From Sparta FC - 'The Fall' - Play this track here.
\u00bfWhats this iPod Shuffle set all about? Read about it here
This music you may remember from BBC Saturday Sport was composed by MES (Mark E Smith) and The Fall. To get a feel for the show, check this out. Unfortunately, his beloved Man City had managed a 'Hopeless as usual performance' in their 0-0 draw against Blackburn.
The Fall are an English post-punk group, formed in Prestwich, Greater Manchester in 1976. The group has existed in some form ever since, and is essentially built around its founder and only constant member Mark E. Smith. First associated with the punk movement of the late 1970s, the group's music has gone through several stylistic changes over the years.
However, The Fall's music is often characterised by repetition, an abrasive guitar-driven sound, and is always underpinned by Smith's vocals and often cryptic lyrics, described by critic Steve Huey as 'abstract poetry filled with complicated wordplay, bone-dry wit, cutting social observations, and general misanthropy (sometimes more implied than clearly stated, but apparent nonetheless).'
The group's output is prolific. As of September 2010 they have released 28 studio albums, and more than triple that counting live albums and other releases. They have never achieved widespread public success beyond a handful of minor hit singles in the late 1980s, but have maintained a strong cult following. The band were long associated with BBC disc jockey John Peel, who championed them from early on in their career and cited The Fall as his favourite band, famously explaining, 'They are always different, they are always the same.'. The Fall were the only band who merited a seperate section in John Peel's record collection.
MES does manage the band like a football team, bringing in new talent and mavericks (many he encounters in the pub in Prestwich) acting as foreman. Dave Simpson's book 'The Fallen' is a great guide to the world of The Fall.
The last time I saw them was in Liverpool 2008 when MES had just turned 50. The band's Peel sessions were finally released recently by Castle Records in the six-CD box 'The Complete Peel Sessions 1978-2004'. This is a good starting point for getting to know the varied music of the band. The lastest album 'Your Future, Our Clutter' is also worth a listen to wet your appetite. Tell 'em I sent you.....

This is quite an old shot. In the current climate I may not even have attempted to take it.
I have heard it said that many classic shots from the likes of Cartier Bresson and others would not be able to take many of their classic images these days. Very sad.

The Hillsborough monument was comissioned by the Hillsborough Justice Campaign and sculpted by Tom Murphy.
Background: A young girl asked her Father, where is the Hillsborough Memorial? She was told: There is one in Anfield.' She said: Why can't we have one in the city centre for everyone to see.' This simple question was the catalyst for this monument
The monument is circular with a raised design in low relief. The imagery shows an imaginary place, which is meant to guide our thoughts of remembrance and all that has happened since the tragedy
The people depicted in the design are the guardians of the memory', or people like us' Their purpose is symbolic and other figures represent justice, hope and loss. The setting is a beautiful and quiet place, which may help us to think about the characters and individual personalities of those who died. The people who passed away are represented by the birds who fly freely throughout the work.
We reflect and empathise with those who died while considering the people they were, and might have been, were it not for the disaster
Description of the raised relief on the maquette
The design begins with two large tablets that list the names those who died. A dedication and information plaque is situated between the tablets of names with a poem, written especially for the moument, by David Charters (journalist and author). Immediately above the central dedication is a wreath of spring flowers. This reminds us of the season and number of victims who died. A Liver Bird stands guard. Below the information plaque is a rail of football scarves from differing clubs signifying the way football fans responded nationally in the days after the disaster. Around the top rim of the monument is the proclamation: HILLSBOROUGH DISASTER. WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.'.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2R22XM5 - Jürgen Norbert Klopp (born 16 June 1967) is a German professional football manager and former player who is the manager of Premier League club Liverpool. He is widely regarded as one of the best managers in the world.
Klopp spent most of his playing career at Mainz 05. He was initially deployed as a striker, but was later moved to defence. Upon retiring in 2001, Klopp became the club's manager, and secured Bundesliga promotion in 2004. After suffering relegation in the 200607 season and unable to achieve promotion, Klopp resigned in 2008 as the club's longest-serving manager. He then became manager of Borussia Dortmund, guiding them to the Bundesliga title in 201011, before winning Dortmund's first-ever domestic double during a record-breaking season. Klopp also guided Dortmund to a runner-up finish in the 201213 UEFA Champions League before leaving in 2015 as their longest-serving manager.
Klopp was appointed manager of Liverpool in 2015. He has guided the club to UEFA Champions League finals in 2018 and 2022, and won the trophy in 2019 to secure his first and Liverpool's sixth title in the competition. Klopp's side finished second in the 201819 Premier League, registering 97 points
the then third-highest total in the history of the English top division, and the most by a team without winning the title. The following season, Klopp won the UEFA Super Cup and Liverpool's first FIFA Club World Cup, before delivering Liverpool's first Premier League title, amassing a club record 99 points and breaking a number of top-flight records. These achievements won him back-to-back FIFA Coach of the Year awards in 2019 and 2020.
