Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EME6HD - 6 June 2026, this live music photograph shows Black Desert performing on stage at Warrington Music Festival in Warrington town centre, Cheshire, England. The image captures the young North West alternative or grunge band in a full band set-up with vocalist and guitarist at centre stage, drummer behind, bassist to the right and another guitarist to the left, framed by amplifiers, monitors, lighting rigs and a large screen displaying the band's name. Festival branding for Warrington Music Fest is visible on both sides of the stage, placing the performance within a free public town-centre event designed to draw crowds into the local retail and leisure area. The stage appears to be a temporary outdoor festival installation, with surrounding buildings visible beyond the performance area, helping to root the image in an urban shopping and civic setting rather than a conventional indoor venue. The scene has value as a documentary image of emerging grassroots music culture in the North West, showing how local festivals give developing bands a platform in front of a broader public audience. It is also useful for editorial themes around youth culture, live entertainment, gig promotion, town-centre regeneration, community events, local identity and the role of arts programming in boosting footfall for shops, bars and hospitality businesses. Warrington Music Festival has become part of the town's wider seasonal events offer, using central public space to showcase local and regional acts and to strengthen the area's cultural profile. For picture buyers, the combination of a named band, readable stage screen, instruments, performance energy and clearly branded event context makes this suitable for stories about unsigned bands, North West music scenes, independent live performance, cultural tourism, festival listings, entertainment previews and reviews, and the changing relationship between retail destinations and public events in English town centres.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EMY4D8 - We're voting Restore Britain election placard fixed to a red wooden stake outside a brick-built working-class home in Hindley Green, Wigan, Greater Manchester, during the Makerfield by-election campaign of June 2026. The sign uses red, white and blue Union flag-style colours and bold capital lettering, with the Restore Britain name and map logo beneath, presenting a direct doorstep declaration of support in a residential estate setting. The image is useful for editorial coverage of Restore Britain, right-wing and far-right politics in the UK, populist campaigning, anti-establishment messaging, voter discontent, working-class electoral realignment, national identity politics and political competition on the right during the 2026 Makerfield by-election. The plain domestic background, brick wall, visible house entrance and garden setting give the photograph a local, street-level quality, showing how national political brands appear in ordinary neighbourhoods rather than on rally stages or broadcast studios. Restore Britain, led by Rupert Lowe, emerged as a rival to Reform UK and attracted coverage because it appeared to compete for similar hard-right and anti-establishment voters. Media coverage of the Makerfield contest discussed whether Restore Britain might split the right-wing vote and affect the balance between Labour, Reform UK and newer nationalist alternatives. The photograph can support stories about political fragmentation, the visual language of patriotic campaign branding, the appeal of simple household placards, and the way estates and suburban streets become visible battlegrounds during by-elections. It may also suit features on the mood in former Labour heartlands, the pressures on mainstream parties, the rise of smaller political movements, and the way voters use garden signs to make public statements about identity, frustration and political direction. The image should be framed neutrally as an observed campaign scene, while noting that Restore Britain

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EME6JP - Bright red Count Binface campaign placard displayed in public gardens during the Makerfield by-election in Greater Manchester, England. The poster reads Vote Binface For Us and Wigan Kebabs capped at £2, with a cartoon-style image of Count Binface beside the slogan. A Galloways Bakers shop is visible in the background, adding strong local context because Wigan and the wider borough are closely associated with pies, pasties, bread rolls and northern bakery culture. The joke refers to the Wigan kebab, a local food nickname commonly understood as a pie served on a barm, roll or bread cake, and turns that regional humour into a mock election promise. The image is useful for editorial coverage of Count Binface, satirical candidates, protest politics, comedy campaigning, local by-elections, voter disillusionment and the more eccentric side of British democracy. It also works for stories about political branding, election posters, street campaigning, humour in public life and the way candidates use recognisable local food references to connect with voters. The setting gives the image extra value: rather than a generic campaign portrait, it places the joke poster in a visible town-centre or neighbourhood garden scene, with shops, greenery and a bakery frontage behind it. For picture buyers, the combination of readable slogan, strong red colour, named candidate, local bakery background and specific Makerfield by-election context makes the image suitable for news, features, opinion pieces and light-hearted political analysis. It can illustrate how fringe and satirical candidates use absurd pledges to cut through a crowded election campaign, while still pointing to themes such as the cost of living, food prices, local identity and distrust of mainstream politics. Count Binface's £2 Wigan kebab pledge was reported as part of his Makerfield campaign, giving the image a topical hook as well as comic regional appeal.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EJD0CW - Documentary live music photograph shows Dave Formula, keyboard player and composer best known for his work with the influential Manchester post-punk band Magazine, performing on stage at Manchester Academy 2 on 23 May 2026. Formula is pictured at the microphone, wearing a hat, dark jacket and red shirt, with stage lighting, keyboard equipment and stock-photo/gotonysmith-Performance.html?sortBy=relevant&pseudoid=237DAF28-A4ED-4448-8173-C0E81ABEEC6F Target=_Blank>performance hardware visible around him. The image captures a close, expressive concert moment during the Dave Formula & Noko tour, where Magazine material was performed by a full band rather than as a simple nostalgia appearance. Event listings for the tour described Magazine's Dave Formula on keyboards and Noko on guitar presenting a set drawn from Magazine's classic back catalogue, with Peter Petersen of French new wave band Affection Place on vocals, Tim Petersen on bass guitar and Dave's son Max Formula on drums. The Manchester date gave the performance extra resonance because Formula was born in Manchester and Magazine were one of the city's most important late 1970s post-punk groups. The photograph can illustrate features on post-punk, Magazine, Manchester music history, ageing musicians still performing, intergenerational touring bands, keyboard players, alternative rock, new wave, cult music audiences and the continuing afterlife of classic independent music. Formula's distinctive keyboard work helped shape Magazine's tense, dramatic sound, while his later associations with Visage and other projects connect the image to wider British new wave and synth-pop history. For stock image buyers, the value lies in the named performer, clear stage context, recognisable live music setting and precise date and venue. It is suited to editorial use around Magazine's legacy, Manchester Academy concerts, post-punk revivals, older musicians on tour, family links in live performance and the enduring appeal of songs from one of Britain's most distinctive art-rock and post-punk catalogues.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EJD0CY - Live music photograph shows Dave Formula and Noko performing on the 2026 Floorboards tour at Manchester Academy 2 on 23 May 2026, with Peter Petersen of the French band Affection Place on vocals and Dave Tomlinson, better known as Dave Formula, at the keyboards and synthesisers. The wide stage view captures Noko on guitar at the left, Petersen at centre microphone, Formula seated among keyboards and music stands to the right, plus drum kit, amplifiers, monitor wedges and blue and purple stock-photo/gotonysmith-Lighting.html?sortBy=relevant&pseudoid=237DAF28-A4ED-4448-8173-C0E81ABEEC6F Target=_Blank>lighting across the venue. The image has clear editorial value because it records a contemporary live performance built around the legacy of Magazine, one of Manchester's defining post-punk bands. Event listings for the tour described Magazine's Dave Formula and Noko presenting classic songs from the Magazine catalogue, including material associated with the band's celebrated post-punk and new wave period. Formula's keyboard textures were central to Magazine's tense, dramatic sound, while Noko's later role with the group connected the performance to the band's longer history and continuing audience. The Manchester date adds resonance because Magazine emerged from the city's late 1970s music scene after Howard Devoto left Buzzcocks, and Manchester Academy remains a major live venue for alternative, indie and heritage acts. This photograph can illustrate features on Magazine, post-punk revival, Manchester music history, live concert photography, veteran musicians still touring, keyboard-led rock, synth performance, new wave, art rock, cult music audiences and intergenerational live performance. For stock image buyers, the value lies in the named artists, precise venue and date, strong lighting, clear stage layout and recognisable concert atmosphere. It works well for editorial use around the continuing appeal of Magazine's songbook, the enduring influence of Manchester post-punk, and the way classic independent music is being reinterpreted on modern stages.

The poster uses bold vintage tattoo flash styling, red lettering, decorative scrollwork, a female pin-up style portrait, peacock fan imagery and circus or fairground-inspired graphic design to promote tickets for the tattoo convention. It is a strong editorial image for tattoo culture, body art, urban advertising, alternative fashion, creative events, youth culture and the wider growth of tattooing as a mainstream leisure and lifestyle industry. The poster's wording includes Leeds Tattoo Expo, First Direct Arena and tickets on sale now, tying the street promotion to the city's major indoor venue and live events economy. The official Leeds Tattoo Expo information page says the eleventh annual event is being held at First Direct Arena, with over 200 tattoo artists, boutique traders, entertainment and competitions, giving the image relevance for tattoo artists, collectors, independent makers and specialist event marketing. The photograph is also useful for stories about Leeds city centre, The Headrow, public realm advertising, poster art, graphic design, subcultures moving into mainstream venues, city break entertainment and the commercial promotion of weekend events. The weather appears dull or overcast, with soft daylight on the pavement and building façade, suggesting a typical British urban day without strong shadows. The image captures the contrast between ornate tattoo-inspired illustration and the formal stone architecture of central Leeds, helping it work as a stock image for alternative culture within a traditional civic cityscape. It can support features on tattoos, body modification, personal identity, event ticketing, local tourism, creative industries, independent traders, street-level marketing and the way specialist cultural scenes are promoted in busy northern city centres.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3EGG7CW - Wide panoramic view inside Leeds Corn Exchange in Leeds city centre, West Yorkshire, showing the dramatic oval trading hall, curved upper gallery, patterned glazed roof and rows of arched shopfronts now occupied by independent retailers. The image records one of the city's most distinctive Victorian commercial buildings, designed by Cuthbert Brodrick and opened in the 1860s when Leeds was expanding rapidly as a major centre of trade, cloth, finance and civic ambition. Originally built for the buying and selling of grain, the Corn Exchange has been reused as a shopping, food, craft and creative retail destination, making it a strong visual example of adaptive reuse, heritage regeneration and town centre placemaking. The broad angle captures the full sweep of the circular interior, from timber floorboards and black metal balustrades to colourful unit doors, café seating, shoppers, browsers and people resting in the central space below. It is useful for editorial themes around Victorian architecture, listed buildings, independent shopping, alternative retail, city centre regeneration, reuse of historic property, high street change, local makers, small businesses and visitor attractions in Yorkshire. The curved plan, repeated arches and roof structure emphasise Brodrick's confident engineering and the building's continuing public life. Photographed indoors in soft natural daylight filtered through the glass roof, the scene has an even, calm atmosphere with no harsh shadows, suggesting a cloudy or bright overcast day outside. The image also has value for stories about heritage-led economic renewal, the move away from conventional chain retail, sustainable reuse of existing buildings, tourism, shopping habits after online disruption and Leeds as a northern city balancing commercial history with a contemporary independent cultural scene. Visible seating and shopfronts give the space scale, making the panorama useful for travel, retail and architecture features.

The image is useful for editorial coverage of alternative retail, independent shops, heritage shopping, city centre regeneration, adaptive reuse, Victorian architecture, Yorkshire tourism, Leeds visitor attractions and the continuing reinvention of historic commercial buildings. Leeds Corn Exchange was designed by Cuthbert Brodrick, the architect also associated with Leeds Town Hall, and was built between 1861 and 1863 for the viewing and trading of corn. Historic England lists the building as Grade I and records its oval plan, two storeys over a basement, partly glazed dome roof, semi-circular and elliptical iron ribs, balcony access and cast-iron railings. The original design was shaped by the need to bring in clear northern light so merchants could inspect grain samples accurately, making the roof, plan and interior arrangement practical as well as dramatic. Today the building functions as a boutique retail and leisure destination, with small shops, creative businesses, food and drink uses, events and casual seating replacing its original agricultural trading role. This panorama captures the building's scale and symmetry better than a tighter view, showing how the upper galleries, shop units and central floor work together as a public interior. It can illustrate stories about retail diversity, high street change, independent business, heritage conservation, Leeds architecture, urban tourism, reuse of listed buildings and the shift from nineteenth-century commodity trading to twenty-first-century shopping and leisure. The soft interior light, busy seating areas and colourful shopfronts give the photograph a lively but architectural feel, making it suitable for travel, planni

The image captures a recognisable UK retail scene, showing the expanding supermarket market for reduced alcohol products, sober curious lifestyles, mindful drinking, designated drivers, health-conscious shoppers and customers looking for alternatives to full-strength alcoholic drinks.
The display is useful for stories about changing British drinking habits, alcohol moderation, supermarket retail trends, public health, Dry January, low alcohol beer, alcohol-free gin style drinks, low and no wine, cider alternatives, adult soft drinks, pricing, promotions and the growing commercial value of no and low alcohol ranges. The visible shelf-edge prices, branded bottles, cans and wine-style packaging help show how these products are now merchandised as a mainstream category rather than a small niche. The overhead No and Low Alcohol sign gives the photograph strong editorial clarity, making the subject readable even at thumbnail size.
This image can support articles about alcohol duty, cost of living pressures, younger consumers drinking less, responsible drinking campaigns, supermarket category management, health policy, alcohol substitution, wellness retail, product innovation and the blurring of boundaries between alcohol aisles and adult non-alcoholic drinks. It also suits features on UK grocery chains, Asda store layouts, consumer choice, changing social habits and the wider cultural shift towards moderation. The Australian psychedelic rock band, originally formed in Perth, are strongly associated with colourful, high-energy psych rock, fuzz guitar, garage rock, progressive rock textures and fast, distorted live performances. The right-hand performer appears to be singing or playing lead guitar at the microphone, but the individual should only be named as Jack McEwan if confirmed by the photographer's own notes or venue accreditation, because person identity cannot be verified from this image alone.
The image is suitable for editorial coverage of contemporary Australian rock, UK touring, Manchester concerts, live music photography, independent venues, gig culture and psychedelic music. Albert Hall, a Grade II listed former Wesleyan chapel converted into a major Manchester music venue, gives the performance additional cultural context as part of the city's live music scene. The dark background, spotlight, red stage tones and visible instruments create a strong documentary atmosphere, useful for articles about touring bands, guitar music, alternative music, psych rock revival, music journalism, concert reviews, festival line-ups and the experience of live performance.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3DCX6C3 - A brightly decorated bar boat moored at Paddington Basin on the Grand Union Canal in west London, photographed at Paddington Basin, London W2 1TR. The floating venue features seating, lighting and decorative elements designed for socialising, with the canal and surrounding modern buildings forming a distinctive urban backdrop.
Paddington Basin is part of a wider regeneration area that has transformed former industrial and transport-related land into a mixed-use district combining offices, housing, restaurants and public spaces. The presence of bar boats and leisure craft reflects a broader revival of London's historic canal network, which once played a crucial role in freight transport but is now increasingly associated with recreation, tourism and lifestyle uses.
The Grand Union Canal, one of the longest canals in the UK, runs through west and north London, linking the capital with the Midlands. In areas such as Paddington Basin, the canal has become a focal point for waterside placemaking, where floating cafés, bars and cultural venues add vibrancy to the public realm and encourage informal social interaction.
Scenes like this are often used editorially to illustrate themes of urban regeneration, adaptive reuse of infrastructure, the growth of waterside leisure economies and changing patterns of city life. Photographed in daylight with people, seating and moored boats visible, the image captures the canal as a lived-in urban space rather than a purely historic relic.
The photograph offers strong editorial value for subjects including London waterways, floating hospitality, contemporary urban leisure, tourism and the reinvention of post-industrial environments, making it suitable for travel features, lifestyle coverage and urban studies publications.

The image is presented as an editorial music performance photograph and is useful for coverage of Talking Heads, Remain in Light, post-punk, new wave, art rock, funk rock, live music and Manchester gig culture. Jerry Harrison is strongly associated with Talking Heads as a keyboard and guitar player, while Adrian Belew is widely known for his work with King Crimson, David Bowie, Frank Zappa and Talking Heads related projects. The 2025 tour celebrated music from Talking Heads and the landmark Remain in Light period, with the Manchester date listed at O2 Ritz on Whitworth Street West. The venue is one of Manchester's long-established live music rooms, historically known as The Ritz, with a central city location close to Oxford Road and Deansgate-Castlefield. The scene shows a dark concert stage, amplifiers, percussion and microphone stands, with vivid coloured lighting and a focused performance stance typical of an intimate theatre or club gig. This image could suit editorial features on veteran musicians, classic alternative music, Talking Heads legacy, Remain in Light anniversary interest, live touring, Manchester concerts, guitar performance, art-rock audiences, music venues, nightlife, cultural events and the continuing appeal of late twentieth-century new wave and post-punk artists. It also has relevance for stories about heritage touring, older musicians still performing, influential rhythm-driven guitar music, experimental pop and the revival of classic albums in contemporary live sets. The low-light indoor conditions, saturated stage colour and close framing give the photograph strong atmosphere and documentary value for music press, listings, reviews and archive use.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 3E6T4DK - Editorial live music photograph of Rakel Mjöll Leifsdóttir, vocalist of Dream Wife, performing at Future Yard in Birkenhead, Merseyside, England, on 2 November 2024 during the band's Social Lubrication Tour 2023/24. The singer is shown mid-stock-photo/gotonysmith-Performance.html?sortBy=relevant&pseudoid=237DAF28-A4ED-4448-8173-C0E81ABEEC6F Target=_Blank>performance under vivid red and magenta stage lighting, holding a microphone close to her mouth, with bright LED bars, amplifier equipment and part of the drum kit visible behind her. Her expressive pose, colourful patterned stage outfit and direct engagement with the crowd capture the energy, attitude and theatrical presence associated with Dream Wife's live shows.
This image is suitable for editorial use covering Dream Wife, Rakel Mjöll Leifsdóttir, live music in Birkenhead, Future Yard gigs, Merseyside music culture, UK touring bands, women in rock, feminist punk, indie rock, alternative rock and contemporary guitar music. Dream Wife are widely described as an English-Icelandic, London-based band, and this performance fits their reputation for sharp, energetic, politically aware live sets. The photograph works well for concert reviews, music journalism, venue features, tour coverage, album promotion and wider articles about grassroots venues, independent music spaces and the Liverpool City Region live music scene.
The compact venue setting, saturated lighting and close stage perspective give the image a strong documentary feel, making it useful for newspapers, magazines, blogs and music press needing a clear, recognisable performance shot. It also has wider stock value for themes such as female fronted bands, vocalist on stage, microphone performance, stagecraft, modern punk pop aesthetics, intimate gigs, artist touring schedules and the continuing appeal of energetic live alternative music in smaller British venues. Future Yard's independent status also makes the picture useful for local culture and grassroots venue coverage.

The image captures the stark, atmospheric look of a post-punk concert, with the central performer near the microphone and other musicians arranged behind him in a classic live band setup. The photograph is useful for editorial uses around Peter Hook, ex-New Order and Joy Division musicians, live performance, British post-punk, alternative rock, Manchester music heritage, touring bands, concert venues and northern music culture. Culture Warrington announced that Peter Hook and The Light would bring the Substance world tour to Parr Hall on Thursday 17 October, while ticket listings for the date describe the tour as featuring the Substance albums by Joy Division and New Order. That makes the image relevant to the legacy of both bands, Factory Records history, bass-led post-punk, and the live audience for New Order and Joy Division material. Parr Hall is a long-established Warrington performance venue on Palmyra Square South, hosting concerts, comedy, theatre and community events, and this scene shows it being used as an intimate indoor music venue with the audience visible at the foot of the frame. The monochrome treatment suits the subject, echoing visual language associated with late 1970s and early 1980s Manchester music, while lighting haze, equipment silhouettes and a dark backdrop add editorial mood. The date places the concert in autumn, and the indoor scene gives no exterior weather information, but the visible stage lighting and low contrast create a late evening gig atmosphere. This stock image can support articles on live music touring, heritage acts, post-punk revival, Warrington nightlife, Cheshire arts venues, ticketed events and the continuing influence of Joy Division and New Order on British alternative music.

The image shows Hook on stage with his distinctive bass guitar, microphone stand, backline amplifiers, keyboard setup, stage risers, haze and low concert lighting, creating a stark monochrome scene strongly associated with British post-punk performance. Peter Hook is widely known as a former bassist and co-founder of Joy Division and New Order, two of the most influential bands to emerge from the Manchester and Salford music scene. The Warrington date formed part of the tour built around the Substance albums by Joy Division and New Order, with Ticketline describing the 2024 dates as performances of both bands' Substance albums in full. Parr Hall is a long-established Warrington venue on Palmyra Square South, used for concerts, comedy, theatre, community events and touring music. The photograph has strong editorial value for stories about Peter Hook, Joy Division, New Order, Factory Records, Manchester music heritage, alternative rock, post-punk, live touring, heritage acts, bass-led songwriting and the continuing appeal of late twentieth century northern music. The visible stage equipment, handwritten set markings on cases, lit performance area and partially visible band member behind the keyboard add practical documentary detail. The monochrome treatment suits the subject, echoing the visual style often linked with Joy Division's austere artwork and the industrial mood of Manchester's post-punk history. The indoor venue means no exterior weather is visible, but the concert lighting and crowd-edge viewpoint suggest a late evening autumn gig. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2P6JJB7 - Eric's Club was a music club in Liverpool, England. It opened on 1 October 1976 in the basement of The Fruit Exchange in Victoria Street, with performances by The Runaways and The Sex Pistols (their only Liverpool gig) before soon moving around the block to its long-term site on Mathew Street opposite The Cavern Club where The Beatles and other bands of the 1960s played, and became notable for hosting early performances by many punk and post-punk bands.[1]
The club was started by Roger Eagle and Ken Testi (manager of cult Liverpool band Deaf School) and joined later by Pete Fulwell (owner of a small record label Inevitable and later to become manager of Liverpool bands It's Immaterial and The Christians). The club was given the name 'Eric's' by Ken Testi as an antidote to disco clubs with names such as 'Tiffany's' and 'Samantha's'
The club played host to many local, national and international bands primarily within the music sub-cultures of the time, such as Elvis Costello, Buzzcocks, The Clash, Joy Division, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Cardiacs, The Slits, Talking Heads, The Stranglers, Ultravox, Wire, XTC, X-Ray Spex and early gigs by New Order and Mick Hucknall (pre Simply Red).
The club acted as a catalyst for local musicians (often also from the Runcorn, Southport, Skelmersdale, Wirral areas) and saw many local artists later become successful acts, including Dead or Alive, Echo & the Bunnymen, Julian Cope, The Teardrop Explodes, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Ellery Bop and Wah! Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2K1YDHA - Alpaca farming has rapidly become one of the most successful and respected alternative farming enterprises in the agricultural sector. Alpacas can provide healthy financial returns, a breeding challenge and a wonderful lifestyle
The alpaca (Lama pacos) is a species of South American camelid mammal. It is similar to, and often confused with, the llama. However, alpacas are often noticeably smaller than llamas. The two animals are closely related and can successfully crossbreed. Both species are believed to have been domesticated from their wild relatives, the vicuña and guanaco. There are two breeds of alpaca: the Suri alpaca and the Huacaya alpaca.
Alpacas are kept in herds that graze on the level heights of the Andes of Southern Peru, Western Bolivia, Ecuador, and Northern Chile at an altitude of 3,500 to 5,000 metres (11,000 to 16,000 feet) above sea level. Alpacas are considerably smaller than llamas, and unlike llamas, they were not bred to be working animals, but were bred specifically for their fiber. Alpaca fiber is used for making knitted and woven items, similar to sheep's wool. These items include blankets, sweaters, hats, gloves, scarves, a wide variety of textiles, and ponchos, in South America, as well as sweaters, socks, coats, and bedding in other parts of the world. The fiber comes in more than 52 natural colors as classified in Peru, 12 as classified in Australia, and 16 as classified in the United States.
Alpacas communicate through body language. The most common is spitting to show dominance when they are in distress, fearful, or feel agitated. Male alpacas are more aggressive than females, and tend to establish dominance within their herd group. In some cases, alpha males will immobilize the head and neck of a weaker or challenging male in order to show their strength and dominance

We formed in 2012 with the original aim of transforming an area of wasteland behind Shipley Fire Station into a community food garden. Unfortunately due to due constraints over securing a lease for this site from Bradford Council, we are no longer able to pursue this project.
In 2015 we began working with Sustainable Saltaire to look after the Sunday School Garden in Caroline Street car park. In 2016 we developed two new edible growing sites: Plot at Platform 1 at Saltaire Station and the Japanese Edible Garden on Exhibition Road, supported by Shipley College. We also work with Saltaire Village Society to help look after the raised beds in the Wash House Garden on Caroline Street (edge of Edward Street and Amelia Street).

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2AAT2NR - Cycling to work is a great way of fitting more activity into your busy daily routine, and what better way is there to enjoy the beginning and end of the work day.
It's also good for the environment as you won't be burning any fossil fuels on your commute - the only fuel you'll need is your breakfast.
But how to start cycling to work? You don't need a complicated programme or a detailed plan to start cycling, just a bike and the willingness to give it a go.
If you haven't tried it before you've probably got some questions about how to begin, but with a little preparation and our bike commuting tips below you can enjoy a healthy, cheap start to the day.
Can I cycle that far?
A rough rule of thumb is that most people can cover about five miles in half an hour. It might take some time to build up to the distance you need to cover but in the meantime you're fitting physical activity into your daily routine instead of trying to find time to exercise after work.
If you've got a long way to travel why not put your bike in the car and just cycle the last bit? Chances are this will be the bit that involves traffic jams, frustration and idling engines. You might be surprised by how quickly you're ready to increase the distance too.
I don't feel confident cycling on busy roads
Get some cycle training if you think you need it, especially if you haven't cycled for a long time.
Look into routes that avoid busy roads. A common mistake is to assume that the only route to work is on the main road with all the rush-hour cars.
If anyone from your workplace already cycles your way ask them about the routes they take or even ask them to bike buddy with you.
My bike isn't in great condition
If you're not sure whether your bike is safe, find time to check it over. Take it to a local bike mechanic if you're still not certain.
If it's safe to ride, just give it a go. You can think about whether a better bike might make it even more enjoyable once you've decided to continue cycling

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy R9GTEP - A recumbent bicycle is a bicycle that places the rider in a laid-back reclining position. Most recumbent riders choose this type of design for ergonomic reasons: the rider's weight is distributed comfortably over a larger area, supported by back and buttocks. On a traditional upright bicycle, the body weight rests entirely on a small portion of the sitting bones, the feet, and the hands.
Most recumbent models also have an aerodynamic advantage
the reclined, legs-forward position of the rider's body presents a smaller frontal profile. A recumbent holds the world speed record for a bicycle, and they were banned from racing under the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 1934, and now race under the banner of the World Human Powered Vehicle Association (WHPVA) and International Human Powered Vehicle Association (IHPVA).
Recumbents are available in a wide range of configurations, including: long to short wheelbase
large, small, or a mix of wheel sizes

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy R9GTFT - A recumbent bicycle is a bicycle that places the rider in a laid-back reclining position.
Recumbents are available in a wide range of configurations, including: long to short wheelbase
large, small, or a mix of wheel sizes
overseat, underseat, or no-hands steering
and rear wheel or front wheel drive. A variant with three wheels is a recumbent tricycle.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy H2MCT5 - This documentary stock photograph shows St Paul's Cathedral entrance in wide angle, City of London, England, UK. The image is centred on St Paul's Cathedral, giving it strong editorial value for stories about London, architecture, tourism, heritage, public realm, night photography and the way the capital presents itself beside the River Thames. The caption and visible treatment indicate wide composition, so the photograph can be used as a real city scene rather than a generic skyline. The wider context includes Sir Christopher Wren's cathedral, City of London identity, baroque architecture, wartime memory and the ceremonial heart of the capital. These are subjects with broad stock-photo demand because they connect recognisable landmarks with themes of history, culture, faith, finance, theatre, regeneration, transport, walking routes and visitor spending. The image can support articles about City of London working life, South Bank tourism, Bankside leisure, London at dusk, cathedral heritage, riverside views, public spaces, cultural venues, urban planning, commercial property and the continuing pull of landmark architecture in news and travel publishing. For SEO and Alamy search, useful composite phrases include London dusk skyline, St Pauls Cathedral evening view, River Thames panorama, Bankside cultural quarter, Shakespeare Globe Theatre exterior, Millennium Bridge London, City of London landmark and Southwark riverside tourism. If the image is black and white, the monochrome style adds a more timeless, architectural feel
if it is in colour, the low-light sky and urban illumination add atmosphere and practical editorial appeal. Its value lies in combining a recognisable subject with a specific viewpoint and mood, suitable for guidebooks, blogs, newspapers, magazines, education, heritage, planning, religion, theatre, travel and city-break content.

Are you a fan of Wildian campishness? August, always a mad busy crazy time in Edinburgh, during the festival and fringe, which seems to have grown even bigger than the tattoo and festival. If you can't catch any Oscar Wilde here, then we are in trouble...
As the blurb says:
An impertinent epilogue to 'The Importance Of Being Earnest' by Robin Johnson (the writer of Stitched Up).
'There are certain rules for surviving a drawing-room farce. Look over your plans for the next few days. If they are harebrained, reconsider. If a case of humourous mistaken identity arises, politely correct it before it gets out of hand. Resist the temptation to entrust any crucial task to a comic buffoon. Avoid the company of country vicars, austere aunts, village policemen and crossdressers. Do not pretend that a living person is dead or vice versa.'

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe (The Fringe) is the world's largest arts festival, with the 2012 event spanning 25 days totalling over 2,695 shows from 47 countries in 279 venues. Established in 1947 as an alternative to the Edinburgh International Festival, it takes place annually in Scotland's capital, in the month of August. The Fringe is a showcase for the performing arts, particularly theatre and comedy (which has seen substantial growth in recent years), although dance and music are also represented. In 2012, 36% of shows were comedy and 28% theatrical productions. Theatrical productions range from the classics of ancient Greece to William Shakespeare, Samuel Beckett and contemporary works. In 2012, 1,418 shows were having their world premiere.
The Fringe is an unjuried festival \u2013 with no selection committee, and therefore any type of performance may participate. The Fringe has often showcased experimental works that might not be invited to a more conservative arts festival. In addition to ticketed, programmed events, the Festival has included a street fair, located primarily on the Royal Mile. The Festival is organized by the Festival Fringe Society, which publishes the programme, sells tickets, and offers advice to performers. Their offices are on the Royal Mile.

'Cherry Bomb' is a 1976 punk-influenced hard rock song by the all-girl band The Runaways off of their self-titled debut album. It is widely regarded by many as the band's signature song. 'Cherry Bomb' was also ranked 52nd on VH1's 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs.
Singer/guitarist Joan Jett composed the song with the band's then-manager, Kim Fowley, and would later go on to re-record it with her band the Blackhearts for the 1984 album Glorious Results of a Misspent Youth.
The Runaways' version of the song was used in the cult classic film Dazed and Confused, and was featured on its soundtrack album. It can also be heard as a partial cover song by JoJo in the movie RV and was covered by Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart, who played Runaways frontwoman Cherie Currie and Joan Jett, for the 2010 biopic film The Runaways.
The song has been re-recorded by Jett and Currie to be featured in the video game Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock as a playable song.

This is one of my favourite tracks from 'Welcome to My Nightmare', the eighth album by Alice Cooper, released in 1975. This was Alice Cooper's first solo album (all previous Alice Cooper releases were band efforts). The cover artwork was created by Drew Struzan for Pacific Eye &
Ear. Rolling Stone would later rank it as one of the 'Top 100 Album Covers Of All Time'.
Welcome to My Nightmare is a concept album. The songs, heard in sequence, form a journey through the nightmares of a child named Steven. Welcome to My Nightmare inspired the Alice Cooper: The Nightmare TV special and a worldwide concert tour in 1975, and the Welcome To My Nightmare concert film in 1976.
The song Welcome to my Nightmare is a parody of the 1968 novel 'There's a Nightmare in My Closet' by Mercer Mayer. Famed film actor of the Horror genre Vincent Price provided the introductory monologue in the song 'The Black Widow'. VP can be seen in the video link.
Alice Cooper was born Vincent Damon Furnier in 1948. He is an American rock singer, songwriter and musician whose career spans more than four decades. With a stage show that features guillotines, electric chairs, fake blood, boa constrictors and baby dolls, Cooper has drawn equally from horror movies, vaudeville and garage rock to pioneer a grandly theatrical and violent brand of heavy metal designed to shock. He came decades before the likes of Marilyn Manson and others.

Description: Tony Smith image Flickr 4680058176 - 'A common sight these days. The addiction of getting beyond level 20 whether its just angry birds or Doom can be quite gripping. Apparently the two kids associated with the Columbine High School massacre in 1999 were addicted to Doom.
Grand Theft Auto is referred to a number of times in defence of various crimes in the UK and the States. In February 2003, 16-year-old American Dustin Lynch was charged with aggravated murder and made an insanity defense that he was 'obsessed' with Grand Theft Auto III.
On June 25, 2003, two American step brothers, Joshua and William Buckner, aged 14 and 16, respectively, used a rifle to fire at vehicles on Interstate 40 in Tennessee, killing a 45-year-old man and wounding a 19-year-old woman. The two shooters told investigators they had been inspired by Grand Theft Auto III. they were all found guilty.
In September 2007 in Ohio, 16-year-old Daniel Petric snuck out of his bedroom window to purchase the game Halo 3 against the orders of his father, a minister at New Life Assembly of God in Wellington, Ohio, U.S.
His parents eventually banned him from the game after he spent up to 18 hours a day with it, and secured it in a lockbox in a closet where the father also kept a 9mm handgun, according to prosecutors. In October 2007, Daniel used his father's key to open the lockbox and remove the gun and the game. He then entered the living room of his house and shot both of them in the head, killing his mother and wounding his father.
Petric is sentenced to life in prison without parole, which was later commuted to 23 years in imprisonment. While defense attorneys argued that Petric was influenced by video game addiction, the court fully dismissed these claims.
Surveys and research are pretty thin on the ground however if you trawl the internet. Many that can be found are short term or limited in scope. In the meantime, the games industry continues to grow, overtaking music sales in some countries.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2P6JJ1P - Eric's Club was a music club in Liverpool, England.
