Description: Tony Smith image Alamy 2REGJ6Y - A chalkboard beer list inside Cloisters Bar, an independent real-ale pub on Brougham Street in Edinburgh. The hand-written board displays a changing selection of cask and keg beers, with an emphasis on Scottish breweries alongside guest ales from across the wider UK.
Cloisters is particularly known for supporting local and regional brewers, regularly featuring beers from Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders, Orkney, Aberdeen and the Highlands. The visible selection includes traditional cask ales, modern IPAs, stouts and experimental styles, reflecting the breadth of contemporary Scottish brewing while maintaining a strong connection to classic pub culture.
Photographed indoors under pub lighting, the image documents everyday real-ale culture in Scotland, highlighting the role of independent pubs as curators of local brewing traditions. It is well suited for editorial use relating to beer culture, Scottish food and drink, independent pubs, microbreweries, and urban social life. Breweries :-
The chalkboard lists rotating cask and keg beers from multiple Scottish and UK breweries, including:
Stewart Brewing
Swannay Brewery
Fierce Beer
Cross Borders Brewing
Tempest Brewing Co
Black Isle Brewing

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy TRN0YW - Aberdeen 2019 has been transformed into a vibrant and colourful artistic experience thanks to the return of an annual festival.
More than 100 artists are taking part in the Look Again Festival, which takes advantage of vacant or underused areas of the city and runs until June 16.
Among the highlights of this year's event, the fifth since it was launched, include a Colosseum-inspired colourful installation at the Castlegate and a virtual reality experience in Marischal Quad.
Another major attraction is The Bill Gibb Line, presented by Aberdeen-based writer Shane Strachan.
Gibb was the son of an Aberdeenshire farmer who took the fashion world by storm, with Elizabeth Taylor, Bianca Jagger, and Sandie Shaw wearing his designs in the 1970s.
Look Again co-director Sally Reaper said: In this, our fifth year, Look Again lasts longer and extends further than ever before.
With amazing participation from well over 100 artists, designers, makers, writers and performers, we really feel we are showing what a great creative community we have right here in the north-east.
We are so pleased to be highlighting this wealth of talent.
Our 2019 programme is bold and ambitious, outward-looking and connected, and we are delighted at the collaborations and partnerships that have emerged and continue to grow through Look Again.
An extensive series of talks, workshops and events will also give opportunities to learn more about the work of the participating artists and the creative industries in the north-east.
Launched in 2015, Look Again is now part of Gray's School of Art at Robert Gordon University (RGU) and also holds events throughout the year.
Libby Curtis, head of the art school, said: Look Again is fully committed to supporting the growth and development of Aberdeen's incredible creative industry ? support it critically needs in order to maintain its robust cultural offering but also to retain the fantastic artistic talent we have here in the north-east.

In 2010, BrewDog opened their first bar, in nearby Aberdeen. At the end of 2018, the company operates 50 bars in the United Kingdom and 24 international bars.
In 2011, BrewDog was described as one of the prime movers behind the campaign which changed the law in 2011 to allow new beer measures in Britain.
2011 also saw the company offered crowdfunding shares totalling ?2 million, the equivalent of 8% of the capital of the company. The shares were sold at ?23.75 and accompanied several benefits such as discounts in their bars and online purchase of their beers, and the opportunity to attend their annual shareholders meeting.
The main brewing moved from Fraserburgh to nearby Ellon in 2012.
In February 2016, BrewDog open-sourced its beer recipes to the public, making them a form of Free Beer.
Private equity firm, TSG Consumer Partners acquired a 22% stake in the company for approximately ?213 million in April 2017.
In February 2018, BrewDog announced that it plans to build a $30 million production brewery and tap room on an 11,000sqm greenfield site in the Metroplex complex at Murrarie, in Brisbane, Australia.
BrewDog's provocative marketing has been a key aspect of its business, and has gained them substantial international coverage.
In 2008, BrewDog were challenged by UK drinks industry watchdog the Portman Group. Portman had claimed BrewDog to be in breach of their Code of Practice for the labeling of the Dead Pony IPA. BrewDog denied these allegations and countered that Portman was impeding the development of smaller brewing companies. In December 2008, after an 8-month long dispute and a preliminary adjudication which had ruled against the company, BrewDog were cleared of all breaches of the Code of Practice and were permitted to continue marketing their brands without making any changes to the packaging.
In protest to their targeting, BrewDog introduced Speedball

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy TRN106 - Orkney, Shetland, Inverness, Ayrshire and Fife are among the regions represented in a series of 12 limited edition Tennent's fonts.
Designed to create ?stand out' on the bar, the fonts are currently being rolled out to selected pubs and bars across Scotland.
Eleven regions ? Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Perth, Fife, Stirling, Ayrshire, Shetland, Orkney and Inverness ? are represented along with a general Scotland design for outlets outwith the selected regions.
Each of the fonts, created by design agency D8, features landmarks and references from the region it represents, such as Edinburgh's Calton Hill, the Finnieston Crane in Glasgow, Aberdeen's Dunnottar Castle, Deep Sea World in Fife, Orkney's Viking longship, shinty in Inverness and Perth's Tay Bridge.
Alan Hay, on-trade sales director at Tennent's, said 250 fonts of each design will be rolled out this summer.
Supporting our customers will always be our priority, and following the success of our customisable founts, we are now rolling out fount designs for specific regions of Scotland, he said.
No other brand knows the Scottish on-trade like we do and we're sure the cultural references on each fount will create a real talking point amongst pub-goers
we can't wait to see how they look in bars around the country.
We want our drinkers to have a quality experience when enjoying a pint of Tennent's, and that starts with how our fount looks on the bar.
The roll out of the limited edition fonts comes after Tennent's extended its partnership with Scottish Rugby in a seven-figure deal.
Under the new agreement, Tennent's will continue its relationship with the Scotland national team and the country's two professional sides: Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors, alongside the additional title sponsorship of the Scottish domestic leagues.
The brewer will additionally take on the naming rights of the Premiership and National leagues, with the newly-formed Scottish Championship to follow in 2019/2020.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy GMAACD - Robert Gordon's College is a private co-educational day school in the heart of Aberdeen, Scotland. The school caters for pupils from Nursery through to S6.
It originally opened in 1750 as the result of a bequest by Robert Gordon, an Aberdeen merchant who made his fortune from trading with Baltic ports, and was known at foundation as Robert Gordon's Hospital. This was 19 years after Gordon had died and left his estate in a 'Deed of Mortification' to fund the foundation of the Hospital. The fine William Adam-designed building was in fact completed in 1732, but lay empty until 1745 until Gordon's foundation had sufficient funds to complete the interior. During the Jacobite rising, in 1746 the buildings were commandeered by Hanoverian troops and named Fort Cumberland.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy GMAB08 - Marischal College is a large granite building on Broad Street in the centre of Aberdeen in north-east Scotland, and since 2011 has acted as the headquarters of Aberdeen City Council. However, the building was constructed for and is on long-term lease from the University of Aberdeen, which still uses parts of the building to house a museum and for ceremonial events. Today, it provides corporate office space and public access to council services, adjacent to the Town House, the city's historic seat of local government. Many Aberdonians consider Marischal College to be an icon of the Granite City and to symbolise the zenith of Aberdeen's granite-working industry.
The construction of the modern college building began in 1835, following the demolition of previous buildings on the site, and was completed in its present form in the early 1900s. It is the second largest granite building in the world. Formerly the seat of the Marischal College and University of Aberdeen founded in 1593, the building was retained by the unified University of Aberdeen which was created in 1860 by the merger of Marischal College and King's College. The buildings of Marischal College continued to be used for academic purposes until the mid-20th century and less and less until the early 2000s. During this period they were frequently rebuilt and expanded upon.
In the mid-to-late 20th century, teaching and academic activities at the university began to move to King's College or Foresterhill (for students of medicine) and by the early 21st century a new purpose for Marischal College was required. After a number of unsuccessful proposals, the majority of the building was leased to Aberdeen City Council to be restored and refurbished as office accommodation. The extensive renovation was completed on schedule and significantly under budget and the building opened to the public in June 2011. The university has retained the Mitchell Hall and a number of other significant parts of the building.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy GMABPT - Marischal College is a large granite building on Broad Street in the centre of Aberdeen in north-east Scotland, and since 2011 has acted as the headquarters of Aberdeen City Council.

Description: Tony Smith image Alamy TRN0YP - An Aberdeen street art festival has been given a national award following a public poll.
Over four days in April, international artists gathered to brighten up the city by creating large public murals for Nuart.
Business organisation Aberdeen Inspired played a large role in developing the festival, and has now been commended at the 2017 National Business Improvement District (BID) Awards for this.
Following an online vote by members of the public and deliberation by an expert panel, it was awarded the Place Management award over five other BIDs from across the UK.
The win marks the fourth award Nuart Aberdeen has won, including helping the city toward its European BID of the Year victory in July.
Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, said: We're absolutely delighted that Nuart Aberdeen has been recognised with another national award against strong competition from across the UK.
The festival was very successful and sparked a huge amount of interest in the city with large crowds coming to the centre to see the street art throughout the year. Description: Tony Smith image Alamy GMAAHP - Robert Gordon's College is a private co-educational day school in the heart of Aberdeen, Scotland.
